VCB-Vaccum Circuit Breaker

VCB, or Vacuum Circuit Breaker, is a type of electrical switchgear that is commonly used in electric power transmission and distribution systems to protect electrical equipment from circuit overload or short circuit. Unlike conventional circuit breakers, which use air or oil as the arc extinguishing medium, VCBs utilize vacuum technology for interruption of electrical circuits.

VCBs are composed of a vacuum interrupter that provides circuit-breaking capability with minimal arcing, as well as components for mechanical support, insulation, and enclosure. When a fault occurs, the vacuum interrupter opens the circuit by separating the contacts to disrupt the flow of current, thus extinguishing the arc. This operation is fast and effective, without generating gas or other byproducts that can damage equipment and the environment. Due to its low maintenance requirements and long service life, VCBs are a preferred choice over other switchgear types.

VCBs are utilized in various applications, including power generation facilities, transmission and distribution networks, industrial plants, and commercial buildings. They are commonly found in high-voltage systems up to 72kV and can be used in both indoor and outdoor environments. VCBs can also be used as components of larger switchgear assemblies, such as ring main units and switchboards.
